Merriam-Webster adds over 2000 Words and Phrases to the Dictionary
We are often told that when you use a word that is not in
the Dictionary, it is not really a word. On Wednesday, 20th April, 2016 Merriam-Webster announced that it has added 2,000 words and phrases to the Dictionary.
Some of the words added include TMI (Too much information),
ICYMI(in case you missed it), also pop culture influenced word FOMO (fear of
missing out) was added.
Other words pertaining to the LGBTQ community such as Cisgender
(of, relating to, or being a person whose gender identity corresponds with the
sex the person was identified as having at birth) were added.
Merriam-Webster however
noted that many of the words were monitored for years before they met the
criteria for entry.
