Mikel Obi Is Now Captain Of The 2016 Olympic Dream Team

Nigerian football player Mikel Obi has been named as the Captain of the Olympic Dream Team, by Samson Siasia, the Coach of Nigeria U-23 Team. Mikel who is also the Team Leader of the Nigerian Olympic Team, was chosen to be captain ahead of Azubuike Okechukwu.

Samson Siasia made a statement after choosing Mikel as the captain of the Dream Team and said: “It’s just natural for me to pick Mikel as our captain. Aside the fact that he is the captain of the Super Eagles, he is also Team Nigeria captain, so after meeting with both of them and explaining my position. I am pleased to say Azubuike who has been our captain understood and was happy to hand over the captain’s band to Mikel. It is a thing of joy for my team to produce the first footballer to captain Team Nigeria to the Olympics. This, to me, is more than gratifying.”

Mikel Obi will lead the Dream Team to their first Olympic game on Friday August 5th, 2016 against Japan, then they will subsequently face Sweden and Colombia in the group stage of the Olympics Football event.
