The 2017 Volkswagen Atlas SUV is bigger than the Touareg
The 2017 Volkswagen Atlas SUV which is also referred to as Crossblue is a large SUV which is bigger than the Volkswagen Touareg. The German automobile will not be available for sale in Nigeria, however it will be sold to the US.
The
SUV is appealing to the US market with its muscular and sleek design, along
with an impressive thick front grille.
The
SUV is offered in two choice engines which include: a turbocharged 2.0-litre
four-cylinder TSI with 238bhp and a 3.6-litre six-cylinder VR6 with 280bhp. Both
units send drive exclusively through an eight-speed automatic transmission, but
the 2.0-litre has two-wheel drive only while the larger VR6 can be specified
with 4Motion four-wheel drive. This improves the traction and performance on
different surface conditions on several drive modes.
The
Atlas has the biggest seating capacity, compared to the Touareg, can seat seven
passengers comfortable along three rows along with a good space for luggages.
Even with all the seats in use, there is enough room for luggages. The Atlas
has a unique seat folding mechanism specifically for the second row of seats to
maximise space into the back. The seats at the middle row can be folded for
third row access, however when a Baby seat is strapped to a seat, it will not
need to be removed while folding the middle row seat.
The
interior features the VW switchgear and dials, shared with the rest of its
range, including touch screen infotainment mounted in the centre console, and
an optional digital screen behind the wheel, the display of which can be
customised according to driver preference, isn’t that world class?
The
sound system brings to light 12 speakers and a 480-watt amplifier which is
Apple integrated.
For
optimum safety while driving, the SUV is equipped with the adaptive cruise control, forward collision
warning, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), blind spot monitoring with a rear
traffic alert system, lane departure warning and park assist technology. It is
also equipped with an automatic post-collision braking system, which keeps the
brakes applied in the second phase of an accident to prevent further impacts.
The
price has not yet been revealed, however the Atlas will be available in the US
market in the first half of 2017.
