Toyota gets emotional: Suspends its self driving test due to UBER’s fatal crash
On Sunday, a UBER self driving SUV on autonomous mode killed a pedestrian who was walking her bicycle on the road in Arizona, USA. This has made the Toyota corporation to suspend the testing of their self driving vehicles on public roads.
Japanese brand 'Toyota' which has a research institute in Silicon Valley, has been testing self driving vehicles since the beginning of 2018 in Michigan and California. As a result of the UBER's fatal crash, the corporation feels that the test drivers behind the wheel may have an emotional effect, so the testing on public roads will be paused for now.
This development is coming in the wake of a negotiation between Toyota and UBER, of which Toyota intends to buy the self driving software from UBER. This means that automobile companies are collaborating to achieve the development of self driving vehicles in the world.
At the moment, other companies in California which have the right to test self driving vehicles may halt their testing programs, due to the crash.
The reason for the self driving vehicle crash, is yet to be known as a statement concerning the crash has not been released by UBER or even Volvo which collaborates with UBER's self driving system.
