Convoy obstructs traffic at GRA junction in Port Harcourt Nigeria

The recent lawless behavior of personalities that drive vehicles with siren in convoys are becoming unbearable as the public is being hurt badly.

This act is almost a norm in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The sound from sirens installed in those vehicles is regarded as noise pollution because there is really no need for that show of power. Some of these lawless citizens oppress other road users by driving against traffic, overtaking dangerously and sometimes crashing in other vehicles or pedestrians.

On a normal day when there is an accident and people are hurt, an ambulance siren is allowed in such a circumstance, while if there is a fire outbreak fire trucks siren is allowed as this is an emergency. Also when the police is chasing down criminals the use of siren is allowed.

So the siren should only be used when there is an emergency.
