Nigerian artist Kehinde Wiley bags a Harvard University honors
Nigerians in diaspora are always making great marks, and leaving trails everywhere they go to. Nigerians are so talented and creative. Sometime ago, the former US president Barack Obama specially chose Nigerian artist Kehinde Wiley to paint his portrait. The painting debuted at the Smithsonian Institute's National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. That made Kehinde earn a spot in Time's Most Influential People of 2018.
On Thursday October 11, 2018, Kehinde Wiley was honoured by Harvard University with the W.E.B. Du Bois medal which is Harvard's highest honour in the field of African and African American studies.
"In a recent interview with Time, Kehinde said: "Historically, portraiture has always been about saying yes to things that we want to celebrate, but I think also the commissioned portraits has often times been about a society saying, 'Who are the people we collectively want to honour?' and particularly with the presidential portrait, this is the highest aspect of that tradition."
Remain amazing. 😃
