Due to software error Fiat Chrysler are recalling over one million trucks
Automobile maker Fiat
Chrysler will be recalling over one million pickup trucks from around the world
after a software error was discovered in the brand. The error has led to one
death and two injuries.
There is a challenge
with the trucks which involves an erroneous code that can temporarily disable
the side airbag and deployment seat of belt pretensioners which reduce seat
belt slack during impacts during a sudden crash or vehicle rollover. The
computer modules in the vehicles will have to be reprogrammed to address the
error.
According to the
automaker, the recall will involve 1.02 million 2013 – 2016 Ram 1500 and 2500 pickup
trucks, and 2014 – 2016 Ram 3500 pickup trucks in the US, 216,007 vehicles in
Canada, and 21,668 in Mexico, and 21,530 outside North America.
The recall will
start in late June, however in the event of an error code in the vehicle can be
resolved temporarily by turning the vehicle off and then on.
