It is one thing to
build a vehicle, and it’s another thing to make sure that the vehicle is
working properly. When there is a challenge in a vehicle, there is a
probability that the same challenge might occur in several other vehicles in
that same line which are mass produced. This can lead to a recall of all the
vehicles for that challenge to be resolved.
Safety regulators in
the United States are investigating complaints of faulty brakes in the 2009
Nissan Murano line which may affect about 110,000 Murano vehicles.
The investigation is
carried out by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA),
which will start with evaluating the complaints. If the vehicle has a harmful defect,
the engineering analysis will be done and the result may lead to a vehicle
recall.
Below are some reports
from the drivers:
One driver stated that
the vehicle crashed as a result of a brake failure when changing lanes from the
left to the right, which resulted in collision with another vehicle. The driver
and the passengers all sustained injuries in the crash. And later after some
months, the driver stated that another crash occurred with the same vehicle,
and the airbags did not deploy.
Another driver stated
that a road bump led to the deactivation of the brake, even though the pedal
was pressed to the floorboard.
Some reports state that
the brake pedal loses pressure, which makes it difficult for drivers to stop,
leading to a crash.
As the investigation
goes underway, Nissan is reviewing its data, and is willing to work with the
safety regulators cooperatively, to answer their questions.
